kollectiv respect

Before all the hating starts with tomorrows game, I thought we should show some kollective respect to our German friends.

One thing the English and Germans do have in allgemein is a thriving music and art scene. It goes back in history, indeed the first German national anthem used the melody of god save the king, with the words changed to Heil dir im Siegerkranz to the same tune as the UK version.

Anyway this a long way of saying there is a banging music scene in Germany, I know very little of the thriving techno scene I will leave that to Sunday, but perhaps the best known label from there on these shores is the Berlin based Sonar Kollectiv.

This is a little homage to some of the tunes and artists they have put out over the years with some tunes you might know and some you might not, before we hate every thing German come 3pm BST tomorrow afternoon. Enjoy.

  1. Lovely music, but I'm not sure I like the colours on the flag. I think it's the wrong shade of yellow, and while I like the red in the middle I'm not too keen on the black either. In fact it would be a whole lot better if it had a white background with the red stretching in a vertical direction in addition to it's current horizontal presence. Apart from that it's great.

Yesterday on the eve of the game I must admit I felt nothing towards these three horizontal planes of colour but today the feeling is definitely not the same. Although I'm quietly confident, probably just pre-match nerves.

Oh yes, I nearly forgot, the music, lovely, especially good to hear that 'just a lil' lovin' track which i don't think I ever owned but for some reason heard played repeatedly by someone, who was that I wonder, please reply on a postcard if that someone was you. Also loved that Ben Westbeech track which i hadn't heard before. BOATS album (Fat Freddy's Drop - thanks Ollie) is a must have, like it a lot.

3 hours before kick off and it's time to put on the white shirt and say COME ON ENGLAND...once more unto the breach my friends

  2. I've just about recovered from the game enough to post a comment. Nice mix Musicbrews, I like the Ben Westbeech track ( I've got a nice album of his) and of course Fat Freddy's drop are the best thing to come out of New Zealand since sliced lamb!
